Higher intensity = more fat burned?

Fat burning is really about a total calorie deficit — burning more energy than you take in over the day. Your body doesn't burn fat because you "sweated a lot" in one moment; it trims fat stores gradually through your daily and weekly energy balance. So the core of fat loss isn't the "intensity" of a single session — it's long-term calorie balance.

High-intensity training vs the most effective fat-loss method

Many people think higher intensity means more fat burned, but it's not that simple. Short, high-intensity work (sprints, explosive training) often burns no more calories than moderate, longer-duration work (steady runs, brisk walking). The most effective way to lose fat is exercise you can sustain, which raises your total daily energy expenditure — that is, "total work done" and "sustainability," not one burst of intensity.

The afterburn effect (EPOC) exists, but it's far smaller than often claimed: while high-intensity work keeps you burning energy afterwards, the amount is limited.
